| the big idea |

for every
venture to succeed, one needs ideas. bigger the
better!
our vision
...to excel in the areas of our work by being
better, being unique and delivering quality
consistently.
...being a part of the social development process by
integrating our business with the local economics
and thus create a web of inter-dependencies for
wealth creation for all involved.
...promoting responsible tourism, which in
non-intrusive and directly/indirectly makes a
positive impact in the lives of people involved. it
also means that we ensure minimal impact on ecology.
...promoting and cultivating organic produce,
retailing local agricultural & handicraft
products.
areas of work
our areas of work include hospitality, agri-business
and handicrafts. through himalayan village sonapani
we intend to work in all the three areas.
right from the start
to ensure that our philosophy is reflected in our
product, we made a series of choices. the first and
foremost being the use of construction material.
instead of using stone, which has to be quarried, we opted for compressed earth blocks as our building material. using a machine bought from development
alternatives we finished the entire construction at a much lesser cost and in a more environmental friendly way than others.
in construction and furniture, we have used a mix of pine wood and plantation wood, that too bought 'legally'. we did not cut or
displace any trees to make way for construction. we
are harvesting rainwater. and now, we are all set to practice and propagate the scientific organic farming techniques.
aren't we doing great ;-? |

| responsible
tourism |
 |
as a tourist we visit somebody else's home, somebody else's workplace. while we are there to relax and have fun, the people who live there have to carry on with their lives as usual. these people may be rich or poor, urban or rural - but one thing is sure, they do not want to be disturbed just the way we demand it in our workplaces and homes.
as a tourist, we hold a great responsibility of ensuring that we make no negative impact on the lives of people residing in the place of our visit. we also need to understand and ensure that it is our responsibility to ensure minimal environmental impact of our visit.
putting it simply, we have to ensure that we do not leave our 'footprints' behind! |
